CSK vs KKR Round 2 IPL 3: Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders: Chennai Super Kings performed like Stars

CSK vs KKR: Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders match resulted in Chennai on the winning side. Chennai put on a never before IPL performance, while Kolkata Knight Riders suffered one more serious blow. Kokata Knight Riders in clutches of severe humiliation

Some of the teams have failed terribly in the IPL like the Kings XI Punjab and Kokata Knight Riders. If Kings XI Punjab failed in IPL 3, the Kolkata Knight Riders failed in three outings successively. When Shah Rukh Khan told the performance was better than last time, he tweeted, "Supporters of KKR, we can say goodbye to IPL now. Better than last year is not good enough. Just disappointed, can't make any promises for future either, have lost the right."

Some of the team owners have been led to utter humiliation and financial loss after having purchased the teams for hundreds or thousands of crores. The team administration and management seem to have tried so many things in their armory to get the team back to form but some teams do not seem to be any winning.

Kolkata Knight Riders innings

The Kolkata Knight Riders started better until Chris Gayle lost his wicket. Then the Chennai Super Kings took total control until some of the middle order batsmen consolidated with a few boundaries and sixes in the final overs. The team score was a no threatening 139 for 8 with which the Chennai Super Kings fancied their Semi Final chances.

It was not only the poor performance of Kolkata Knight Riders but it was the superior bowling of Doug Bollinger (15 for 2) and Ravichandran Ashwin (16 for 3) that reduced the Kolkata Knight Riders to such a measly total. Ravichandran Ashwin was adjudged Man of the Match for his match winning performance.

Chennai Super Kings innings

The Chennai Super Kings looked like getting back to their losing ways when Hayden was dismissed and the Kolkata Knight Riders had gone euphoric for a win. Nothing went on as desired by the Kolkata Knight Riders as Suresh Raina ensured that the Chennai Super Kings sailed to an aggressive win to top the Net Run Rate.

The Chennai Super Kings scoring at such frenetic pace was absolutely incredible. They scored 143 in just 13.3 overs which helped them take the second spot in the rankings only to be behind the superior Mumbai Indians. 62 runs off 78 runs of Suresh Raina's score came through boundaries and sixes. Murali Vijay played a supporting role scoring a 50 off 40 balls.

He rotated the strike and gave the winning shot to his senior. This makes him a player that adopts to situations and knows how to play in each situation.

What Chennai Super Kings take away from this game?\

The Chennai Super Kings take away a few things ahead of the Semi Finals. They seem to have perfectly peaked at the right time which something Dhoni does very often. He has the ability to lead from the front and pull the team to victory at the right time from nowhere. We witnessed the opposite of this trend until the arrival of Sourav Ganguly as the Indian Captain.

Dhoni further evolutionized this concept having been a youth icon. It is important for Chennai and Chennai Super Kings that the local lads are performing so well. This will have a huge say in the selection. For all those who patiently supported Chennai Super Kings for so long just like Krishnamachari Shrikanth, this win has become a sigh of relief. Thanks to Dhoni, who showed strong character in getting the team back together.

The T20 being an unpredictable format will lead to any results but Mahendra Singh Dhoni being the master of the game will do his best to take it as far as he can. For the first time in the tournament, the team looked like a real team of classy and talented players. The Chennai Super Kings is such a youthful team which has been playing like a team consisting of retired Test players.

Dhoni is likely to cash in on the euphoria set by the Chennai Super Kings's emphatic win over the Kolkata Knight Riders!

  1. It is ironic that KKR, the only team that has not reached the IPL semi-finals in three editions, is the most heavily sponsored and the most profitable. Thanks to Bollywood Badshah, Shah Ruck Khan, KKR is aggressively marketed. It will be very interesting to see their valuation next year. So far, KKR's performance on the field has not dented their finances.

Coming to the match, it is a commendable bowling performance even with Muralidharan going for 47 runs in his 4 overs. I think KKR was ambushed by Ashwin. Dougie is a god-send. He is doing for CSK what Dirk Nannes does for Delhi Daredevils... Add bite to the attack. :)

  2. That is a great comment Jayanth. Yes, it was interesting to see how Chennai Super Kings was able to win with such ease and KKR was going nowhere.

Yes, winning is not associated with profit as you rightly pointed out. Rajasthan Royals won the first IPL and Deccan Chargers won the second but it was Kolkata Knight Riders that made the most profit each year.

That is merely about Shah Rukh Khan and the cricket crazy franchise (Kolkata) he selected. However, Kings XI Punjab is worth sympathizing as they lose matches with some of the best of players in their team.

Jayawardene has started to play with class and aggression but Skipper Sangakkara has been failing every time including the 'so-called' aggressive Yuvraj Singh.

So, the owners of KKR are most likely to sell their team in the next IPL owing to the big time loss they made in three editions - mostly in the third edition after a dismal show.

Except KKR everyone keeps mum about their profit. It may be that heroes have to display their numbers game to be considered stars and stay in the limelight!

  4. Again a typo. Their Team! Not teams! Lack of sleep the day before is taxing me!
